The vision of Newbury Golf Center started in 1999, the year our founder, Erik Sorensen, graduated from college. He envisioned opening a state-of-the-art practice facility on the North Shore of Boston. Growing up on the North Shore and having worked at a golf course since he was a child, he saw the opportunity in this area. As other opportunities in the golf world opened, he put this dream on the back burner. During those years Erik built a career as a club professional working at four top 100 courses, including Myopia Hunt Club, Augusta National Golf Club, Mountain Lake, Isleworth Country Club, and Dorset Field Club.
During his career Erik was a head professional, owning and operating his own pro shop but instruction was always his passion, he taught players ranging from beginners to tour professionals. During Erik’s career he has been recognized as PGA Massachusetts Teacher of the year, Top 50 kids Teacher by US Kids Golf, Top 100 Teaching Professional by the GRAA and named Best in State Teacher by Golf Digest. He was also recognized on a local level by the PGA of America, as a five-time Vermont Chapter award winner. He has been a Class A PGA Professional since 2001.
